Default newbie here

Hi , another newbie here ,not new to bikes but new to the hurricane,I just picked up a 88 1000 hurricane and it has the (from what I understand )popular starter doesnt turn the engine over problem....bought it super cheap so have a little bit of budget to try to get it going, first there was no solonoid so I have ordered that ,but if I hook up a battery directly to the starter it just spins ,is that because of the solonoid missing or possible broken chain? From the research Ive done on this site it sounds like a complete teardown? ouch ....thats gonna hurt, any one have any tips before I tear into it? whats the easiest way to tell if it is the chain and not somthing else? it has roughly 31k on it and who knows how long its been sitting, the guy I got it from didnt know anything about it...any help would be greatly appriciated!!!thanks J

Hey welcome Skidstar. Sorry to hear about the bike problems. There is a fairly large Hurricane following on the site so post on up in that section and i'm sure they'll help get you straightened away sooner rather than later.

Post up some pics of your new bike too when you get a chance!

Welcome Skidstar, glad to add another Hurricane owner to the mix.
Try posting your starter problem in the 1000F or Hurricane saloon,we have the largest # of 1000F riders on the net here,so I'm sure they'll be able help you out.
Good luck and post some pics when U can

We will need photos. Photos of the bike would be appreciated as well, however not necessary.
