Hello. Figure I should introduce myself. Currently don't own a bike, but I re-enlist soon and with a portion of my bonus I'm going to buy a bike. Right now I'm 99% set on a CBR1000RR. Only thing that I can think of that'll change my mind is if there is something damning about that bike I haven't found out about yet or something offered by another company that is leaps and bounds better; I want to stay with a Honda though.
I also own an Evolution, that I love, as well as a classic Honda Civic that's over 30 years old.
So, I've been doing my research and so far all I've found bad with the CBR1K is oil issues. Some said it was mostly the 08's and was "officially" fixed in '10. Others say a couple cases have caused the issue to be blown out of proportion. And still others say they "just burn a lot of oil". So I'm a bit up in the air about this issue. Also, it sounds like the next "generation" of CBR should be the 2012. Is that true? If so I'll definitely wait for the '12 to come out and either get it if I like it, or get a '11 on the cheap.
I'm weary of buying used for a couple reasons. Does anyone know what I should expect to pay for a new bike? Meaning in relation to MSRP. For cars I have rarely paid MSRP, unless it was a high demand or limited production.
Am I crazy for wanting to buy brand new? Would a used (good condition) '09 be 50% the price of a new '11, or '12 when the time comes? I'll have the cash for new, it's not an issue, but I also don't like wasting thousands.
--Anything else you guys want to throw my way for advice I'm all ears. I'll take it or leave it; and appreciate it either way If it's to get a 600 rather than a 1000 then I'll be "leaving it."
-TIA, Paddy

i haven't heard any recent complaints about oil consumption -- from what i can tell it's basically limited to a production run in '08. (there may be a report here-or-there outside that range that people associate with the issue, but i'd say those just fall under normal the normal percentage of complaints you'll see about anything.)
anyone who tells you honda is making a drastic change in '12 is just making a prediction at this point, your guess is as good as mine. if and when they do make a change, the unsold older models will have some pressure to be sold at lower prices. but i doubt you're going to find anything like a used 1 or 2 year old bike for 50% off tho.
in general, the statement you'll likely get from any 1000rr owner here is that they wouldn't want anything else.
