newb.... alloy?
Hey, I'm new here and would really appreciate some help.
I'm a member of a university FSAE race team. Basically we build a formula style racecar, powered by a sportbike engine, and compete in an annual competition. We are currently using an F4i engine. However, one of our engine blocks was cracked during a recent cold spell, since we have to run water instead of antifreeze. The only damage is on the exterior, just a water jacket. Since it is a non critical location, we are considering welding it. The problem... we are not sure as to the composition of the aluminum alloy. Or maybe there is a better way of dealing with this? If someone could please help it would greatly appreciated. |
i've used cold weld (JB Weld) on aluminum alloys with great success, but you may have addt'l concerns if it's a high-stress application. seems like we've had a couple other members who were involved in the FSAE on the site, and FOR SURE there are guys here who have rebuilt every aspect of the F4i engine.
