Default New Rider - Raleigh, NC

Hello everyone,

I'm new to the street bike world and what a great world it is! I used to ride dirt bikes as a young kid and now that I'm about 24 I thought it was time to get back on a bike (the wife allowed it!).

Here is my 1998 CBR900RR

Any helpful tips to a new street rider are welcome and if you're in the Raleigh area, let me know!

Welcome to the forum...and street riding!

Nice bike you picked up. Make sure you go through all of the fluids and check all the bolts, you're life depends on it. Did you take an MSF course? It's highly recommended for new street riders. Riding out there on the street is different than dirt riding, so be smart, safe, and enjoy you ride.

Check the regional section for local events in your area.

That bike is gorgeous! Like demon says...get into an MSF class if you haven't already. Even riders with some experience can learn something if the go in with an open mind!

Thanks for the warm welcomes and comments on the bike!

I have in fact have signed up for the MSF course here in my local area! (about 20 minutes away)! I'm an Army vet and that's one thing I've always been told... go to MSF if you want to ride!

So, I should be going to the MSF course sometime next week to take the course. From there, going to the DMV to take the written test and hopefully obtaining my license. I love that the MSF course trumps the riders test at the DMV plus you get to learn a lot about street riding.

Excellent! Good to hear it.

In many states, the MSF counts for both the written & riding portion for the DMV.

Enjoy the course, listen & learn.
