Default New Rider, looking to get in

I do not have a bike yet. I am very interested in getting one. I am a college student and thought how great it would to have a bike to ride to class and back everyday. I have always wanted a bike but my mom wouldnt let me. I have a bit of a speeding problem!!(bit meaning a lot)What would be a great starter bike? Anything you guys can tell me would be awesome!!Thanks

Welcome to the forum.

First thing, you need to work on your speed problems because they only get worse on a bike. If I'm on a road with traffic running at 65mph, it feels like I can get off the bike and run beside it.

250cc are always a great starter bike, but will get you killed the same as a liter (1000cc) bike will. I've been riding for years, and years and still get my thrills on a 600RR. The question is, can you control yourself and the bike enough? I'm my opinion, any size bike will do for a beginner if you fear and respect the bike. Not saying to be afraid of a bike, there's a huge difference in fear and afraid.

Before you start shopping for a bike, take the MSF course. They usually use 125 and 250cc cruisers. I never rode before and I had a blast on the 125cc eliminator.

But if speed is what you want (and it sounds like you do) there is nothing like a sportbike. Tell your mom you have the need for speed and is she isn't with you then she is against you. Don't take no crap...go see the movie '300', get pumped up and demand a motorcycle. If she says no just yell 'THIS IS SPARTA!!!'

Sorry, sometimes I get carrieed away.

Fish that is AWESOME!!! Well actually I dont want speed that much because I do have that speeding problem and I dont need any more tickets or my first accident (knock on wood). So it seems like that would be pretty nice for a first bike. What is the MSF course?thanks for the great info guys!!keep it coming
