New rider in Florida
Who cares what others think about you and your bike. Especially some dude at Advance. At least you are out there riding. If you have people making fun of your bike, they are not the right people to hang out with and ride with. They should understand that it is a motorcycle, and you made the responsible choice to learn to ride on it. You will thank yourself down the road with the skills you will learn on a small bike that will pay dividends when you begin riding a bigger bike. You can take that 250 to the mountains and spank most riders on liter bikes.
Unfortunately the 250 will sound like that even with a good pipe. I would not worry about spending a lot of money on upgrades. You will eventually upgrade the bike and you will not get your money out of the mods. Save your money and just ride it.

It shows a lot more skill being able to ride a slow bike fast. most the literbike owners I know, I don't bother riding with cause they fall into 2 groups - really talented guys that ride way above my skill level, and the meatheads that like straightaways only and are stupidly brave. I think they count on the law of averages avoiding them.
i went on a ride early last sunday to a local airport where they have nice corners had some fun seeing what my bike could do. when i got home i parked my bike out front my house when inside and was eating when my mom went to go shopping she backed out of the garage and i heard a big bang! heard my brother truck alarm start going off, i thought she backed out and hit my brothers truck, wrong! i walked out to my bike on the ground! she hit my bike and fell over on to my brothers truck! i couldnt beleive that my brand new bike was laying down! my helmet was on the handle bar and saved my very nice plastic and side, nice dent in my tank though
in the pic u can see my mom holding my helmet, her and i were very upset, both our faults, (me for parking there and her for not looking in her mirror) we decided to split the cost of a new tank, which with the special editon color and decals is very hard to get ahold of
just couldnt beleive i tried so hard to make sure no one else hit it and it turns out i just had to watch my mom backing out!
moral of this story, dont park near a car! lol
