New to me
As is customary for joining any forum you must first introduce yourself in the new member area, read the FAQ section, read the FAQ section again, try the search before asking a question like 'what tire is best' and 'is 93 octane a million times better than 91 octane or just 100 times better' . . .
So I am first introducing myself as new to the forum and new to CBRs. I have had many late 70s - 81/82 CBs but never a modern CBR. To be honest all of my bikes have been from that time including KZs and a GS1100E, that GS was an exciting bike.
I picked up a 2002 F4i with 20k miles right at $2500, here in central TX (Austin) that is a pretty good deal. Most bikes around the $2300 - $2800 range are all in need of quite a bit of work, I just got lucky and of course CASH is king. The bike is clean and no "seepage" anywhere! Once again the no seepage thing in my price range was a miracle.
Overall I really enjoy the bike and am pleased at the power of the 600, I can only imagine what a newer 1000 is like, WOW. Fun and revs quick, good on gas, and insurance is only $125 a year.
What I may not be too fond of in time: Tire wear is horrible, do you really go thru tires that quick??? Anything under 4k rpm and the bike just wants to quit - KEEP THE REVS UP - Lastly, these damn things run HOT. I thought a liquid cooled engine would run cooler than that, 188* highway and 217*-224* sitting at the light. (maybe me being 350lbs and Texas summers don't help

hi and welcome, get over to the f4i section and post up your questions, on the tyres there are a fair few tyres available, some soft and sticky, some harder and longer lasting, depends on how you ride/how often. im sure the f4i crew will give you loads of advise
Welcome the CBR Forum,
My 'tongue-in-cheek' meter went off scale with your intro - well done.
Most super sports bike do two three things very, very well. 1. Chew rear tyres, 2. Give you a thrill a minute at anything above 5,000 RPM and 3. Tend to run hot in traffic during summer.
You have now discovered this
Cheers, SB

hey man, welcome to CBRF. as far as your questions, these tires do last about 1/10-1/20 of what car tires do - that's normal, make sure your psi is above 30 at least - i'd assume you don't need a lower psi to generate heat in texas. temps sound normal. if you're getting back under 200 once the radiator hits some open air - that's pretty good. and yeah, our motors are making almost no power at 4k rpms. they're designed to turn good hp numbers at high rpms. anyways, thanks for joining. enjoy the forum
Responses from around the globe, that's cool. I always think about the U.K. guys when I have rain in the forecast, being in Texas rain is very rare in the summer months and if there is a 30% chance of rain that means NO bike that day. I imagine you guys getting only a 30% chance of rain is like a clear and sunny day. (of course my only experience with U.K. weather is from Top Gear and Wheeler Dealers, but it seems that it constantly rains)
And yeah Demon, the which oil question, forgot about that one LOL. I wonder if bike forums are anything like auto forums when dealing with HID lights, IDK, guess my first post should be 'How to install HIDs'
