Kilgore & Indy Hurricane pretty much got the bike lifting part covered so I wont delve into that But a 1 ton floor jack will work just fine
Good luck on the rebuild and enjoy the forum!

You're gonna be hard-pressed to balance the bike properly on that. I picked up a motorcycle jack from Sears for next to nothing that works the same way, but it has a way wider base, and tie-down straps. I eventually picked up a universal front \ rear stand which was an unbelievable godsend, and I use it constantly now. If you own a bike, you should just go pick one up. The hassle it saves you is immeasurable.
