I just put a deposit down on a 1993 CBR600F2.

The good:
$900
Comes with just about everything intact
cranks strong
all lights work (I think)
has a clear title
has a key that works

The bad:
Won't stay started and runs like crap
30k miles
needs to be torn down and have the fairings repaired/repainted/realigned
paint looks like crap (some aftermarket lame job)


I'm assuming it needs new gas and the carbs cleaned out. However I'll try to fix/repair anything that needs it while I'm in there. And I know,

first bike ever. I have about 3 hours of ride time on a 2006 ninja 250, but I really don't feel like looking for a $900 250. haha. I'm glad I found this bike, I had found a Yamaha 600cc Seca II that was $1200 and needed nothing and had 9k miles, however it wasn't local and was a tiny bit more than I wanted to spend especially after transport. Its a little beat, but I like rebuilding things.

Sounds like you have a decent project on your hands. Will be nice to see it come back to life. Perhaps start a build thread. We all like build threads. ;-)

yeah, it'll be getting a full tune up and stripped down for cleaning and to make the fairings line back up properly.
Yeah, I come from the performance car world, I know that you can't start a thread without pics, but I live life on the edge. I don't know if I'll outright make a build thread, but I'll take some pics throughout the days. I think I've already decided on the finish... probably bed liner painted matte black... I figure it'll be laid down a couple of times before I decide to buy a fairing kit. plus it'll hide the fiberglass and bondo I'll need to put on to make it look 100% again.

There's a thread or two on bedliner finishes (may have been in General Tech). There was a pic of a bike w/a complete bedliner finish. A quick search would prob find it.

 

I've had the pleasure of working with it before. It's not so hard. But that mindset never got anyone anywhere and I'll search anyways
