I found this forum after searching around the Internet for info related to my new project, a Sprint car with a (potentially dead) CBR600 engine. I don't know much about bikes but I know my way around a socket set so hopefully (with help / advice from the forum & youtube) should be able to get it running.
It appears to be siezed (won't turn over by starter or pushing in any gear). I believe it died when launching off the line so it could be exploded clutch or something else between the crank and gearbox input.
I'm taking the engine out next week to investigate further :-)
Welcome! You should be set re: repair info here and I'd love to see some pics of what that car looks like and what you find as you dig into the engine!
Quick update - Engine is out and covers removed - it's seized solid! (gearbox & clutch are fine), so - replacement engine unit is on the way, will post some photos asap.
Oil & filter are very clean, so is the air filter - so I guess it must have just had a service. Other than that I don't know. Replacement engine is arriving this week. Not sure if I I'll bother stripping the dead engine yet, although I will salvage the useful parts :-)
Old engine is now out, sump baffle transferred and new clutch fitted to the replacement engine and after a bit of a struggle (it's a tight fit) the replacement engine is now fitted and running sweet :-)
The old engine had a load of smeg in the sump including lots of fragments of hard gasket sealer from a previous clutch install, lots of this in the oil pickup strainer too. This probably killed the engine. When I've finished the car I'll take the old engine to pieces and salvage some parts for spares.
Replacement engine fitted with new Oil & coolant, aramid clutch, sump baffle & original carbs - apparently they were properly jetted for racing - and installed in the chassis. Started first time and runs great.
Dismantled the old engine and found lots of dirt/debris in the sump and oil pickup, and the source of the siezure was #4 big end bearing spun and solidly wedged, needed a chisel to get the bearing cap off.
Replacement engine pickup as a comparison Engine replaced, test driven and in it's new home ready for the next meeting.
