Default New with a F4i!

Hey guys, just introducing myself. My name is Francisco and I am the proud new owner of an '01 F4i. I bought the bike as a daily rider as my car (or cars I should say as I have two of them) is in the garage for a complete rebuild from scratch. I come from the DSM world (for those who may not know its Diamond Star Motors any Eclipse Talon or Laser from '89-'99) so I am all about doing the work on my car and now my bike by myself. Now the goal though, was to buy a bike that needed nothing done so it could be a reliable ride. It looks like I couldn't help myself from buy something I could get my hands dirty on. I bought an ex-stunt f4i. The bike had gone through a few owners and a lot of different stages in stunting from no fairings and gauges to caged to streetfighter etc... Well needless to say upon picking up the bike it had every single faring cracked in at least 2 places EACH , a MXD cage, a dented tank with leaky cap, every harness has been cut into from the fact that there used to be a hotbodies undertail on it, to the old streetfighter headlight that was on it, to what stunters have to do for the bike not to turn off after landing a hard wheelie (AKA disabling the on/off switch, grounding out the neutral switch, disabling the side stand switch and a lot more wonderful things! ) Also the bike has no turn signals and the headlight relays and connections have been messed with. Oh and the frame has been painted horribly as its peeling or has cracked in multiple places.

Upon getting the bike, I rode it a few days and unbeknownst to me, the chain was also bad. So it snapped but luckily didn't bring me down.

Now, onto the good...

First thing's first I replaced the old sprockets and chain with a new RK Chain and -1/46 sprockets with a vortex aluminum rear. The master link was annoying as at the time all of my finances were incredibly drained and I couldn't put down $100 bucks for a tool I would rarely need so luckily I was able to borrow one to get it on.

Also, when the chain snapped it also took out a coolant hose so I replaced that, only to find out that my WP was also leaking oil from the O-ring so I have an order on the way with a new O-Ring.

Next was tracking down the Neutral switch, I found the wire grounded to the water pump on the drain bolt so I took it off soldered it back to the connector that was still on the switch used some heatshrink tubing and BAM! One step closer to a respectable bike.

Also, the drain bolt snapped from age and corrosion when I tried to unscrew it so I had to drill and tap it for a larger bolt...

I also adjusted the throttle cable as it had way too much slack by taking off the airbox because I had to fix the idle adjuster cable which had fallen off the bike at one point and wasn't hooked up .

Now, I have quite a lot of parts in. As of now all the fairings except for the front cowl (as I need it to keep the broken headlight on) are off and as is the cage. I am riding and inspecting for a bit and the n the new stuff goes on. Among the new stuff is a brand new fairing set all black with white and silver F4i decals, I also bought a manual CCT (only to find out that my bike already had one on) new turn signals and an LED 954 tail to make the Axsys undertail. And tomorrow when my paycheck comes in I will be buying a new headlight (since mine has every single tab ripped off...) a gas tank which I will be wrapped in (REAL) carbon fiber the match the bike, and the lock mechanism with cable for the rear compartment as mine came with a little metal wire one must pull on to open...

Anyway, that's my introduction. I apologize for being all over the place but that's where this bike has me! I'm a perfectionist however so I plan on making this bike 100% especially with the great help that this forum is. (I just wish I could view uploaded picture attachments!!!)

Welcome aboard Francisco!

Congrats on getting your F4i. Sounds like the bike couldn't have a better owner than you. Kudos to you for putting the time & effort (blood, sweat, tears) to get it back to where it should be, to be a reliable daily bike. Hope you get it to where you want it asap.

Hey thanks everyone, I definitely appreciate the warm welcome! Just need to ad that my damn rear tire just went flat from a nail so it looks like I'm also going to be ponying up some cash for some Mich Pilot 2ct...But at least I'll be able to lean it a lot more comfortably now!
