I think it all depends where your riding skill is and wether u like speed or not. This is my first year starting out and i got a 99 cbr900rr. Very fast bike and im satisfied with it. But for me.. i could always go faster and the bigger the better. haha [8D] But also as many others have said, the 600 would pull you around like nothing also. Im 6'2 220lbs and my 900 yanks me around all day and i love it. All depends on your skill and what you like in the long run.

My opinion, stick with the 600. You'd be surprised how fast those things are. Plus after riding 6's and 1000's I can tell you they each have there own advantages/disadvantages. It seems that alot of people nowwa days just want 1000s to say that they have a 1000. It has nothing to do with the capability of the rider or bike. Its a status thing.

Seriously a 600 is more then enough and trust me brotha, no one on the street who doesnt ride (like the females and friends you are likely going to try to look cool for) know the difference between the two. you can probably sit a 600 and 1000 next to each other and they couldnt pick either out. I have a Gixxer 6 to start and every where I went people were like, Is that a 1000, is that a 750?

For you and your loved ones sake, start on a 6, it will still power wheelie first gear under full throttle, plus a new rider does not yet have the throttle control for a 1000.

Best advice, buy a 6 use if you can, keep it for a year or so, learn to ride it and get use to everything about riding in general, then if you still feel it isnt enough for you, sell it for what you bought it for basically and go get a 1000.

With previous experience you will also have way more fun on a 1000 and be less likely to kill yourself, or others. Not tring to scare you, im sure your a responsible individual, but do yourself a favor and get a 6, learn to enjoy riding (stunting or canyons, whatever) then move on.

There was a statistic I read somewhere that said something like you are more likely to die within your first year of riding if you start on a 1000.

Just my 2cents.

Thanks for all the advice everyone, I really appreciate it. I have decided on the 600RR. Now if I can only find decent priced insurance!
