Default New 1987 CBR 600 F1 Hurricane owner in Toronto

Wanting to learn more about maintaining bikes, I started looking for a project bike and found this Hurricane for what seemed like a reasonable price.

87 Honda CB600F Hurricane

The bike definitely needs work to get it in running condition, but that's OK - if it didn't need work, I wouldn't learn anything !

Looking forward to getting to know the people in this community !

Nice bike! I was looking at that one on Kijiji, but I am from Ottawa and did not have the time for a full day of driving!

Hope you enjoy your new bike!

I live much closer to the seller (Orillia area) and it was still a 7-8 hour round trip.

It was worth it though, in part because I met two interesting people who were very generous with their time in showing a newbie a lot. They insisted on starting the bike for me and when it didn’t, started tearing into it to confirm it wasn’t seized and eventually got it started. Meanwhile they bled the brakes, added coolant, oiled the chain
… all stuff I would not have expected any seller to do.

The seller also gave me a rear wheel stand and insisted I take his bar end straps to secure the bike.

but it was a hike !

Nice buy. What kind of work does it need?

I was told it needs a carb rebuild and new boots, new tires and a battery. I haven’t looked at the carbs yet. The bike had problems starting but the fuel had been sitting for years so not sure if it is the pump, filter, lines or any of the above. It started readily with starter fluid in the carbs.

One of the small fairings on the sides of the bike (the one with the openings a few inches below the tank) were fabricated with sheet metal and held in with wood screws, it is missing the mirrors as well.
