Mr. Tut from northern michigan
Just turned 21 and bought my first bike last fall of 2012 right before the snow hit on craigslist, 1500 dollars got me a 1992 CBR 600 F2 w/ custom fairings and the stock ugly fairings. Just learned 2 weeks ago jeans don't protect worth jack for falls on ice/pavement, just couldn't wait to take it out and turned in my driveway with a patch of ice. My gear is garbage in my opinion, I'm truckin around a HJC daggar (CS-R1) helmet(snowmobile), winter coat, jeans, deer skin winter gloves, and my steel toe low-cut work boots/shoes.
Here is the fun part. I need new gear, which i am thinking kevlar jeans, a snell certified helmet(thinking HJC), some kind of gloves that have armor in it. I am in a big debate on the jacket (budget) cause it will need a pants zipper for when i go to the track this summer. Track pants will be leather with armor. I'm sure i am good on these work boots but i'll solve that problem when it comes up. What is the worst part is i don't want to cross dress with different brands to much. Found some bad *** looking cheapish alpinestars body armor, but i dare not go out with only that for it is not leather.
What kind of gear are you guys running around on for protection?

Welcome. My gear depends on what kind of riding I am doing.
- Shoei TZR is my only dome
- Icon Pursuit leather gloves
- Icon Motorhead boots
If I'm riding hard, I've got a Joe Rocket Razor 2 pc textile suit. Easy riding I have a off brand leather jacket and cortech jeans with armored knees and kevlar butt and thighs.
ATGATT.
Just an fyi, many tracks require a 1 pc suit. Some may allow 2 pc but must have a 360 degree zipper connecting the 2 pieces. Generally tracks prefer leather too.

sorry to hear about your off - but now that you have it out of the way - there's no need to worry about it anymore.
kevlar jeans work pretty good for street duty.
i wear:
speedrag leather jacket (even in southwest florida in the summer!)
icon gloves
scorpion exo 700 helmet (i swear by them - i've unfortunatley tested one at 50mph)
military/police boots

Welcome to the forum.
Once you ride in good, leather gear, you will feel naked without it. I wear mine all the time, even when it's 100+ degrees out. Good gear is expensive though. The BiLT stuff from cycle gear, if you have those stores by you, is cheap but better than none at all. If money is a issue, go that route to get you by until you can save enough for better stuff.

Ive been looking around and found the list that meet the 2010 snell certification
Snell Foundation - M2010 certified helmets
This is the helmet i am looking at here, it will match the newer farings i have and the ugly fairings once i paint them black. Those fairings are a project themselves.

For gloves...not sure if gauntlet is required for track or not
https://www.denniskirk.com/alpinesta...d/3420933L.sku
Jackets are really hard to find for me, i am a chest 40 and 32-33 arm
pretty much fell in love with this but i dont need it if the jacket is right

Thinking on about 120 for kevlar pants...not the patches of kevlar, but the whole pants are kevlar.
that just leaves pants for track and boots
