Hello- New to the forum, just purchased a 1990 600 F1. I’m dating myself here, but rode a couple 1984 interceptor 500’s in the late 80’s or early 90’s and I always appreciated the look of the Hurricane/CBR’s. I’m just looking to do a little cosmetic refresh and use for light riding as I’m past that point in my life where I feel the need to go crazy. Kinda a “Cars and Coffee” thing for the bike. I would like to have this be a decent representation of a 1990 version, but not looking for a museum piece. In my start of cleaning up and addressing issues, it appears that body panels are mostly in good shape, though some will need attention around the mounting holes (reinforcement). One panel in particular may benefit from replacing vs saving, the maintenance panel in the center of the left side fairing. Curious if anyone has leads or a “go-to” source for this type of piece? TIA if anyone can help out! The specific panel is in the attached pics, the other two are just current situation with the seat and rear plastics off as I continue cleaning.
Welcome to the forum, nice to see an old lady being given a new lease on life.
Fingers crossed on the search, I do suspect it will be a difficult one. Have you already placed a search on ebay?
Nice looking bike. I am impressed that it has what appears to be an original exhaust.
Like @Al1040 said, ebay is going to be your friend. Hope you find the panel you need.
Well after a few hours of looking I was able to find a panel on eBay and it is enroute to my house. It will need a light freshen up, and then a paint job plus a pin stripe. I will also be ordering original rear blinkers to make it more period correct. Exhaust is an original, that is actually one thing that I was specifically looking to get, and appears to be harder to find than you would think!
Still waiting for the replacement panel, been cleaning and repairing fairings while I wait. Mostly crack repair or fixing the attachment points for the fairing to frame stuff. Suspect I will be doing new tires, fork seals and dust covers, possibly brake pads and maybe front brake caliper rebuild. Lots of waxing and buffing going on while everything is apart, much easier. Pics to maintain interest.
