Ok so just introducing myself as per instructions... I have owned my CBR600FH since 1987, that is from new. 170,000 miles and it looks like a wreck so last year I handed it over to my school students to attempt a rebuild, so now it is in bitz and since finding a ref to this forum on YouTube I think I may be bending your ears for some helpful tips re the reassembly...
Striping the motor shows no appreciable internal wear, good oil pumps these bikes.
Cheers

Welcome to the CBR Forum Jim,
What a great project - lucky students. You should also introduce them to the concept of forum help. It doesn't always have to come from a manual. In fact there are 'fixes' that are outside the manual, much faster and cheaper to do.
Good luck with the project.
Cheers, SB

Good idea^
My last online class not only encouraged it, but required it. It got the students discussing the topic, where they were free not only to opine, but to discuss the facts.
Welcome. A lot of miles there. Makes me feel good knowing I can ride my bike forever and know it will take me there. Anything you need the floors yours.

hi jim welcome to the forum !! good luck on restoring the bike !! I love the bikes from the 80s! lets see some pics as you take it apart and build it . to save $$ rather then get new hardware for the bike . send all the oem hardware out for cad plating very cost effective and looks awesome !! powdercoating is awesome as well !! have any questions feel free to ask.

Welcome to CBRF! Those are some lucky kids to have you as a shop teacher. I wish we had something like that when I was in high school - but we didn't.
170k is great! Glad to hear everything is looking tip-top inside the motor.
I look forward to seeing their progress on the bike. You can do a bunch of things to any motorcycle. They can take it as far as they want. I'm sure they'll have some awesome ideas of their own.
