intro and opinions on a possible purchase
Hey all. New to the forum today and looking to buy my first street bike. I'm pretty damn broke so I can't afford much. I did a remodel at this guys house and it turns out he has a 98 CBR 600 sitting in his garage for sale. It only has 5,700 miles on it but it is 13 years old and obviously has been sitting for quite some time. The bike won't start and there seems to be an issue with the front signals and headlight. Low beam doesn't work and one turn signal stays constantly lit with nothing in the other. I'm pretty good at diagnosing and fixing electrical issues so I don't think that's a big problem. I'm hoping a tune up and good cleaning inside and out will get the thing running but I don't wanna buy it and end up opening a can of worms and running into problem after problem. I offered 1,500 but he is pretty much set at 2,000. I'm comfortable mechanically or else I wouldn't even consider it. Opinions???

try to get him down to $1700 or $1800, i got mine at 8k miles for $3200 but it had nothing wrong with it. she runs perfect. it shouldnt be much of a problem to fix her. and if you post up in the f3 section, im sure someone will have more info on what might be wrong.

Welcome to the CBRForum.
Cash talks. Offer the guy the $1,500 in cold hard cash. W/ the economy the way it is, that kind of cash can be temping...especially when the bike has just been sitting in his garage gathering dust doing him no good.
If its possible, take it to the local Honda dealer & have a pre-purchase inspection done. It will cost you about $85 but you'll have peace of mind in knowing what you'll be getting into b/f you actually make the offer.
Good luck. Hope it works out.
