Default How To Trailer???

I pick up my bike tomorrow from a private party and have to carry it roughly 200 miles on an open trailer. Can anyone walk me through the tie down process so it does not take a fall? Please keep in mind I'm an ignorant newbie and if you could draw me a picture with crayons that would help... Thanks!

jeez, you're asking a lot on short notice. im not gonna draw anything for ya, but my advice is to go into a bike shop and buy straps especially made for transporting bikes. ask the sales rep for help. get enough to secure both handle bars and both side sof the frame at the very least. sorry not such a big help.

I am a bit high maintenance...

I have some ratcheting straps and a general idea of how to secure it. I'm just a Nervous Nelly at the moment...

Thanks

Strap it from the handlebars. They make straps specifically go to around your grips. Strap from the grip down at an angle to the trailer. Make sure the suspension is compressed some, but not completely as this could blow out fork seals. This SHOULD be enough. For added comfort for you, you may want to run a strap across the back end. Also keep an eye on the grips. I had my bike in the back of the truck coming home from the beach this summer and nearly lost it becasue the hot sun heated the glue and the grips started to slip off...

Very cool thanks.

Heat should not be an issue, but I will keep an eye on things just the same.

I just made a 1000 mile round trip a few weeks back.... word of advice, buy straps that are rated at 800lbs or above. I used the 400 lbs straps and the metal teeth that hold the ratchet in place bent and let the bike fall. No damage because the other straps and the way I hooked them. Here are the pics of how I did mine. I didn't have the time to buy the canyon dancers (the ones made for clip ons) so I came up with a quick method that keeps the straps off the plastic.
