Default Hi, I'm new - F3_96

Hi all,

I'm Robert, 28, living in Ireland.

I recently bought a 1996 F3 and while doing research on the bike I often came across this forum.
I figured I'd register and start contributing.

About the bike:
I bought this bike today. F3's and F4's don't come up too often for a decent price in Ireland (where I am).
The one I bought today is, well .. it's in pretty rough shape.

The previous owner rode it occasionally, but it's been standing outside for a while.
The fairings are a disaster, the battery is gone, the rims have seen better days and the frame has more than a few spots of rust.

So why did I buy it?
Well, several reasons;
1. With the bike being in the shape it is, I'll be looking to respray pretty much everything you can lay your eyes on. Frame, fairings (probably a new kit altogether), tank and powder coat the rims.

2. Because of #1, I can style the bike exactly the way I want it

3. While the rims could be better, they're straight and have no cracks or chips in them whatsoever.

4. On the frame there only appears to be surface rust (as far as I could see...) which shouldn't be too much of a problem to deal with.

5. Because I could. It gives me something to do beyond merely working 60 hours a week. While I got the bike for a reasonable price, I probably won't save any money here. But I'd get tremendous pleasure out of stripping this beast apart and putting a beautiful shiny bike back in its place.

Having said all that; the engine runs great and gears are smooth. And that's really the only thing I'm concerned with. My toolbox (and knowledge) is limited and I'd rather stay away from any engine work at this time. So far, so good.

My intention is to have the bike spotless by May / June this year, just in time for some Irish countryside driving.

Thanks for reading, and happy driving!

Welcome to the CBR Forum Robert,

Glad your research led to this forum, it really is quite useful. So ask any questions you need and post pictures of your ride when you can.

Cheers, SB

Gday from Australia Rob, my mum is Irish so we have 2 things in common, I got myself a 02 CBR954RR 3months ago with "crook" fairings. I searched the web for non genuine bodywork, ioffer.com they do complete painted fairing kits for $380Aus every factory colour and any other scheme you could think of. They fit very well and matched original colours perfectly (which can be difficult in a workshop with paint codes and the bike for some painters) see what they can do for you:-)

I'm actually Dutch! :P
Thanks for the link to ioffer! I was looking through the ones available on (i.e. this one by motohero), but I wasn't too sure of the fit.
Which seller on ioffer did you go with?
Thanks for the tip!

Well Rob, Dutch, Irish it'd be bloody cold either way mate, I've been looking through my receipt collection and found it. http://www.motofairingset.com I found the site through ioffer motorcycle fairings but this address was on some paperwork with the kit.
