Default Hello, new member from california

Hey ev1, I am from california. although I do not OWN a cbr I am heavily and actively looking for a F2 or F3 as I am/will be a first time OWNER, I have ridden many of my friends/family's bikes, but feel I am not ready for a new one.. With that said I have some questions.

1. Am I making the right choice as to a beginner bike?

2. Why are the ones Im looking at here in cali so PRICEY? what would the average price of say a good condition 1993 CBR f2 run?

3. what would be the main common problems/ reliability issues with these models

4. are they a reliable bike?

I have never ridden a CBR/honda but I prefer them lookwise EV1 has a gsxr or yamaha here in town, hardly any hondas. so i want to be original "so to say" any Input would help me alot In my find, and help me not get "RIPPED OFF". So with that said If anyone In california is selling I'm a buyer with cash!!! Thanks again hope to talk soon, maybe even post pics If I buy a bike!!

about myself
29yo
Medical student (orthopedics/kinesiology)
married 3 kids
6ft 225lbs.. (maybe too heavy for a 600???)

You Americans are lucky, here we have restrictions on the power to weight ratio in this state (ie GS500)
But as a 1st bike or 2nd or 3rd, could not recommend the CBR's highly enough, I own an F3 and have found it to be mild/wild type, it wil punt along quite nicely, and once given the berries, can make rapid progress.
All bikes have their weaknesses and the CBR's are, Regulator & Cam Chain tensioner. Depending on their use/abuse, Front Wheel & Stering Head bearings.
Like all bikes, some experience problems that are not indicative of all.
The good news is that these problems, although inconvenient, are not that hard to fix, and are relatively inexpensive.
Once set up to your tastes, they will take you anywhere you want to go, the motors have a reputation for being almost bullet proof, and if taken care of with regular services will last a long time.
They handle and stop well, and are pretty forgiving if you get it wrong. I don't live in the States so I can't tell you wot you should be paying for a used one, (but it would a lot cheaper that what we have to here).
Anyway, happy hunting.

Actually I'm pretty close to That area, Im from stockton .. I've been hitting "craigslist.org" real heavy and have not found one to my liking. I really want a CBR f2 or f3, I have my mind set and will not stray!! Once I get one I will be happy to ride, 99% of my friends have bikes I'm the 1% that does not LOL.. It kind of sucks because I have a "budget price of $3000, and most If any that I have seen In the area exceed that, or are below due to salvage..

Thanks pacemaker for answering some questions I imposed , any other Input would be great , also anyone In northern cali selling one here I am with cash in hand!! prefer one with red in the color scheme (as to macth my other toy, my car!)
