Hello from Jersey!
Hello all!My name is Brandi and I live in the burlington area of NJ.I am looking to buy a CBR as a second bike.I am having trouble deciding on wheter to get the 600 or the 1000.I figured this would be a great place to help me make a decision.
A little backround on me-I currently ride a '00 HD 1200 Sporty.I have been riding for 6 years and I took the MSF course when I got my Sporty.
I have never ridden a sportbike so I am a little worried that the 1000 might be a little scary to me.At the same time I got a lot of crap for gettin my 1200 as my first bike.I am glad that I did though because shortly after I started riding I knew I wanted something even faster!
So what do ya'll think? 600 or 1000?

RE: Hello from Jersey!
Welcome aboard. I've ridden my buddy's Fat Boy, and the difference between an air-cooled v-twin and a sportbike's inline 4 is like night and day. The Harley redlines (or would, if it had a tachometer) right where a sportbike starts getting into the power band.
A 1000 will make more torque at low RPMs which you might appreciate for riding around town, but at the top end even a 600 will pull hard enough to scare you silly.
A 600 is a little lighter which might be nice in the twisties, although a new 1000 is lighter than a 600 from a few years ago.
A 600 will usually cost less to insure.
I really recommend you at least take a spin on a sportbike to see for yourself. If you don't know anyone who rides a sportbike, maybe the Harley dealer will let you test ride a Buell?

RE: Hello from Jersey!
It is tough to make a recommendation, as both the 600 and 1000 are terrific bikes. The best thing to do is to get a test ride on each and see which one you are more comfortable with. I personally love my f4i, and am not looking to upgrade to a liter bike anytime soon. But if I do see a steal for a 929/954, I'm going to have to have 2 bikes.

Yeah, I'm from Jersey too, and insurance can be a bit much. I'm on Rider, and I pay about 700 for the year, full comprehensive on the f4i. But being that this will be your second bike, the rate should be discounted slightly (assuming you're not selling the hog). You'll save even more money I here if you can find an insurance plan that covers cars as well as motorcycles, ie. State Farm.
Good luck with your search!
