hey everyone. My name is konrad, I live in worth Il ( south Chicago, by oak lawn and Chicago ridge) and I just picked up a 1987 cbr 1000 hurricane. Paid only $500 for her. Plan on a full restoration but need some help. I have some mechanical know how but not an expert in the least bit. She does run but I noticed a small knock in the engine area. I did read about a cam chain tension but didn't go any further in the research. I will need new plastics and left mirror and signal. But other then that she is solid. If anyone has any advise, please let me know. Right now I'm doing a street fighter just to get her on the road but want to do a full restoration.

Welcome aboard and good luck on the restoration. I'm sure you'll find a lot of useful info on here as I have.

Thank you. I'm looking forward to go out and ride. Luckily the weather here is still cold so it gives me time to work on the bike. I got to buy some lights and make a quick street fighter out of her.

My only issue is that he said the breather valve needs work? He said he was ridding on the highway and the bike died out. He pulled over, opened the gas cap, closed it and she started right up. As long as the tank is no less then half, it has now problems, anyone know what could cause this?

Well I have an update. I found the breather ports and cleaned them out (using a small wire and air pressure) and installed some temporary turn signals in the rear. today, I will change the oil and filter and fabricate my own rear fender.

Well I finished it this past weekend amd did what I could for the time being. I joked up a few bandwidth parts out of sheet metal (rear fairing, a broken off part off the front cowl, and inserts where the front turn signals were) its all temporary till I buy all new plastics, I also made a new tail light, and made new front turn signals. I'll post pics shortly, I still need a pretty side mirror and a fullvtune up. I changed the oil and cleared out the vents in the tank and she does seem to run better but I'm still going to take her to a shop to be tuned up properly. Unless anyone here lives in Chicago and wants to do it?
