Default First post First Question (5k miles on 2k5 bike)

Hi, Well im new to the CBR world yet alone the motorcycle world. Well im looking at a CBR600RR with 5k miles on it and its only 2005. I dont know anything about motorcycles and wonder if that is alot of miles on the bike and how much miles is too much. Im hopefully going to get it for around 5-6k because it has a salvage title, envolved in some kind of collision but its going to get repaired by pro shop. Is it worth it? Or should I just wait around. I checked around local shops and they have nothing used for sale. Let me know your opinions about this. Thanks

i'd stay away from salvage bikes. no, 5000 isn't too many miles for a 2005. i know guys with an 05 with WAY more miles. just be patient and wait for a good clean bike (preferably one not involved in a collision). good luck!

btw, welcome to the forum!

I got 3000 on my 06 so 5k ain't alot. If I were you, I'd take your time and keep looking or spend a little more money on a better bike or the same on a year older. You may or may not get lucky with a salvage bike.

Well, the guy im buying the biek from is a authorized dealer. My moms boyfriend works with him all the time and he says he is pretty good at keeping his word. So I dont think I will run into problems if anything goes wrong. He said he will fix it and go over it 100% before he gives it to me.

If you think you trust the guy? The question I would find out is why does it have a salvaged title??? Generally it is due to changing the motor out or swopping out the frame. Why would they change out the motor? If the bike was in an accident bad enough to change out the frame or motor I would not get it! If someone blew the motor and now there is another one you could consider getting it but now there are another set of questions... Where did the new motor come from? How many miles is on it?

I did buy an F2 back in '95 that had a Honda crate motor in it. The bike had 5K miles on it and the motor, I was told by an honest man, only had 100 miles on it. That bike ran like a dream, but I was take a chance with that decision. Once you decide to get it it's done! You can't change it back. If you can trust this guy, ask him to put some kind of guarantee on paper just to be safe.

Remember, if the bike has been twisted in any way, DON'T GET IT!!!

hey sinector, welcome It sounds like you have made up your mind to buy the bike? If I were you I would wait and find a bike without a salvage title. Look at the cycle trade or craigslist in your area. I think you will be alot happier. Also when you go to sell the bike later ( to upgrade) you will not have the burden of getting rid of a salvage titled bike. just my 2cents. good luck
