Checking out a 99 f4
So, i found an ad on craigslist for a 1999 CBR 600 F4. its been laid down, needs carb cleaning, new brakes, tabs. All those things i can handle. But it also doesnt shift out of first, only neutral and first work. The owner said one of his buddies who worked on the bike before and is proficient with bikes, said it could be bent shift forks or a pawl on the shaft inside the block. Any ideas on if its more serious or if theyre right? how much of a pain will it be to fix this thing? is it worth it? heres a link to the ad. CLICK HERE

"Is it worth it?" NO.
That bike has not been taken care of. There are way too many unknowns w/ that bike.
Even if you are mechanically inclined, you're still facing a large amount of costly work.
At that price, it's simply not worth it.
Hang on there & find the right bike.

i know this may be a forbidden topic but... my buddy has an 01 r6 that has a new top end just needs assembly. ive done engine builds on atvs, cars, 4cyl motors but never a rocket motor. all the parts are there, bikes in amazing shape, just needs assembly. i know it sounds like I'm looking for cheap bikes because i am. looking to get one, build it, drive it for a while, and sell to get a better one and gain some profit. ive done this with atvs and dirtbikes just never a rocket
and thanks for the fast replies guys! im just looking around as its winter and bikes are cheaper! thanks for your input guys!

Welcome to the forum,
I bought my F4 in quite bad shape, it's taken alot of money to get it to just about road legal. For me personally it was worth it as I enjoy bringing it back to life and I've got the time off the road to do it. Unless your in the same boat as me I'd recommend to pass on that one mate.

Even at that price.. The labor involved might outweighs the benefit.. And that's iof you can even get it sorted out.
I sold my near mint F4 about 4 months ago for $2500. It sold really quick and to the first person that looked at it...so maybe I could have gotten a bit more... But if I were you I'd spend a it more money and get a better bike to begin with rather than trying to end up with a good bike.
