Default 1997 cbr600

Just picked up an old but little used 600 recently. Covered 9500 miles in 27 years, it’s got a decent looking tyres but they are from 2002 🤦‍♂️ It has a 120/60/17 front tyre and I’m finding very few available but plenty 120/70/17s. Is it a wrong to fit the bigger size?

Hi @sparky46 and welcome to the forum. Post up a picture since she sounds great. There are lots of opinions on tires. The F3 is a great handling bike, just read the magazine articles of the time. How well they handle as a lot to do with tire profile. That bike was designed with those wheels and tires in mind. Its not like going for different tires on a car. If it were me, and I happen to have 2 of those models, a 98 and a 97, I'd stick with the recommended sizes. But that's my opinion.

Thanks for this I value you your opinion. There seems to be more cost associated with the correct size but that’s fine if it’s the best thing to do. Here are a few pics of the old girl. I have original receipts and books even the original license plate is fitted. I rode her once then I’ve stripped her down, bit of a mess underneath, rusty frame, chain and sprockets gunked up, fuel leak, rust in the tank, fork seals leaking but otherwise quite sweet! Ha there were still cobwebs on the engine! I think the guy I bought it from just emptied the tank fuelled it up and got it running. Carbs sound sweet as does the micron.

Bike looks great, love the paint job.
Is it just me or does the fairing look like it is non-standard?
The induction vents are to the side and not underneath the headlight, also the indicators are integrated whereas the F3's were bolt on ones.
Looks good though.

@Sparky46 I think you might want to take a look at the VIN plate for the year of that bike. I'm pretty sure that's a 1991-1994 model. Even more impressive for the added years. This picture is for a 1992. For me the turn signals and side scoop on the upper cowl are the giveaway.
