I'm not going against what everyone is saying, an older bike would be better because you're probably going to drop it a few times. If you're looking at a new one because of the finance options, what will you do if you wreck it? But... the 600 can be a good bike for everyone. I've been riding for years and it's not something I've ever felt I'm out growing. Like you said... respect is the key so if you're careful... the 600 can be a starter bike.

 

Welcome, but pick your bike wisely. Sit on a few and if your heart falls to that, then get it. But get your *** some frame sliders immediately. It will be the best thing b/c everyone drops their bike. It's just how it is. Be careful with how you treat speed, a bike is delicate and will only allow you to do certain things to it. Very tempermental machines and if your ever not feeling like riding....DON'T RIDE! Good luck!

 

Not that I have to much experince in the matter. I just bought a f4i a few months back, as my 1st bike. I took what people said here to heart and I listened to my own heart and bought what I wanted. I'm also taking the msf before I attempt to throw my leg over her. So if a 600rr is what you want get it but please buy used there just as good with a few thousand miles on them. I got my bike with a **** load of mods and 9.5k miles for 4.5k. Thats about 1/2 of what your going to pay for your new RR, thats going to be bone stock. You will be surprised at what kind of great used deals you can get on a rr or f4i and save yourself sooo much money in the process. So if you really want that RR get it take the MSF and really buy it used, you will save so much money that way.

 

I bought a ninja 250 almost a year ago. i bought it new & that was a mistake. i also heard the above statements that "its my 1st bike it should be used or a small cc bike". it didnt take me anytime to figure out a 250 or even a 500 is too small of a bike. buy what you find appealing but be smart because any bike on the streets can be dangerous.

Hey. This is an old man talking ( 47 ), corporate jet mechanic by trade, and I just got my first bike, a 2001 CBR929RR with 8000 miles on it.
I know what the guys are talking about, urging you to get a lighter bike like the 600 F4i, etc. All I can say is, I am no natural born rider, but this is the only bike I know, so I didn't bring any bad habits into this game. Yeah the throttle is super sensitive, but beyond that, YOU are controlling the speed. And this year 929 only outweighs the same year 600 by four pounds, so it's light as a feather.
I would think a guy coming off years of riding on a Harley would get himself in way more trouble on my bike than a newbe rider, but that's just me.
Buy the bike that gets your blood flowing, and watch that throttle.




Do the speed limit...........just get there in 3.5 seconds.

 

I got my '05 cbr600rr this past august and it is my first bike. I say if you want it, go get it cuz chances are you will get the smaller/older bike and then want to move into the 600. Prior to getting the bike, I've ridden a dirt bike, I think it was a 50cc, for about an hour and that was 10 years ago. The aggressive seating took me a bit to get used to but it's not a big deal if you ride it often. The MSF class will definitely help as far as giving you some good techniques in safety. My first bike is the 2006 CBR 600RR you all mightn think Im crazy but I like to live on the edge. I fell in love with this bike and needed to have it. I have taken the safety courses and got my liscense and enjoy riding. I hope not to drop my bike and I really dont think about it. Evryone says buy a beater but Im sure there are people out there that ha ve not dropped thier bikes before. I saw a couple of people drop the bikes in the safety course but thats the only time. I think if you respect the bike it will respect you, dont cross that line where u feel uncomfortable. Now that I got all that BS out of the away Honda has some good financing and awsome new bikes so go get it you cant take the money to the grave with you. Spend it while you got and enjoy life

 

My first bike is my '05 600RR. I went looking for a used bike and I could not find one anywhere within about 100 miles of me. I wanted to get one from a dealer also, just felt more comfortable. After I looked and looked with no luck I decided to get a new one last summer. Going into it I didn't know that the bike I was getting was a race inspired bike. I took the MSF class and after a long time I am finally pretty comfortable on my bike. Much more power then I will ever need. If I coudl do it over I would have bought a used bike privatly or I would have gone with an F4i. I love my bike, just not really made for curzing. Good luck.

 

Yeah, the safety course is a good idea too. I took the one near me here in NYS, and I think it was well worth it. Saves you a little on insurance, too.
