Odd way to start a thread I know, but for the last 10 years I've been suffering from blocked jets and bad batteries - Every time I (infrequently) wanted to ride my CBR, either the battery had died (despite being on trickle charge) or one/more of the idle jets were blocked. I've got really good at pulling the carbs and cleaning them out - so much so I keep a spare set of jets, gaskets and all the needed tools in a dedicated ziplock.
Normal story - I go to the bike, discover it's running on three or two cylinders, rip and clean, put it back together and think "tomorrow - I will go on a long ride.." get distracted by life, and three weeks later - same story.

THIS week, after sitting in a storage unit at 100F for the last year, no charger, no attention - I visit the bike after finally getting a reason to ride it and what do you know? The damn thing starts on the first press and all downpipes get hot.

Seriously? 27 years of ownership and this bike still surprises... Maybe my luck has changed and I should buy a 996....

 

That is odd! Sounds like this time you were lucky and didn't have the typical ethanol fuel separation. Did you happen to run non-ethanol last time out?

 

Maybe - it was probably Connecticut gas rather than Florida gas - maybe it's better, maybe I put more than enough Stabil in. Who knows! Usually the idle jets are blocked solid but this time - success!

 

Odd random things!!! Maybe some neighborhood kids have been joy-riding your bike at night?
Also Stabil-360 Marine Forumulae has twice concentration of good stuff. Use that instead of regular Stabil.

 

Aaaaand it was too good to be true.

Now leaking fuel on the driveway :-(
