Default To wrench or not to wrench

Eyup, many of you know and have commented on the most excellant bodge effected to my downpipes by Chippy using a car jack and some strapping. Which involved lifting a wrongly fitted (wrong year) set of downpipes to the bracket lug and maybe in the process putting undue pressure on the cyclinder bolts.
I say maybe as they appear to exit at a slightly downward angle but dont blow at all so who knows, anyhow they have done a few hundered miles like that and all seems good.
However I can now afford a set of stainless Deklavic headers £199 and the question is do I or dont I change?

I could just be spending money when what we did is working just fine
I could be spending money to protect me from that strap giving way or my imagined or not pressure on the cyclinder block

And as always no job is simple and as soon as you try to change something sods law throws some difficulty at you.

Mmmmm very undecided...

Would it be cheaper to find the correct stockers and have them coated?

I hear ya, shocks and suspension parts tend to wear, stainless steel pipes etc. not so much.

+1 With patience the right header pipes will come up on e-bay, if time were an issue, I'd say go for the shiny new stuff, but the pressure seems to be off, so you can take your time trawling the net.

I don't know if you want my 2 penny worth David but...

If the strap is still ok and the headers haven't popped out yet then leave it until you find some decent second hand ones that fit. You will find that the pressure on the cylinder head bolts will be much less now, the heat allowing the steel to settle into the position they are in now.

If we took the strapping off they wouldn't drop down at all.

I know, once you do find the new headers it will be over to mine for a fitting session...always welcome.

Hi Chippy, your view always most welcome and appreciated.
I checked the strap a couple of weeks ago and it seems just fine its just a little paranoia on my part I think. Ive not looked but I cant hear blowing so the headers must still be in order.
So not itching to replace just paranoid - you are right not broke dont fix.
See ya soon even if just for coffee.

You're welcome any time you know that and if you fancy a ride out anytime just let me know, if I'm off it won't be a problem and we can always arrange to meet my beloved in Starbucks afterwards.
