Thermo Fan Fuse
 

Riding around tonight,40-50 km runaround,could feel the Heat from the donk when i pulled up to put it away.
Watched the temp gauge go past halfway,usually the fan kicks in.......
fuse was Blown,second one in prolly 3 years.Any other Supersporters had this happen or is it just a case of poorly made fuses?

Interested to see what the other Aussies come up with...

That's pretty odd, six pack.

If it was more frequent, I'd say it was the fan.....but 2 fuses in 3yrs?

If it was me, I'd up the fuse a couple amps. What's the fuse size as it is?
I wouldn't know without looking at it.

hmmmm ...bit strange .........check your electrics .......regulator.rectifier and battery
& acid levels ........when the R/R goes wonky funny chit can start happening

I 've strated using these "when she blows she glows fuses" kinda cool they lightup
when they chit the bed .........nice in the dark

Yep, I saw those in a display somewhere. Kinda neat.

I use the old school method of "when she blows she glows".
That's when chit melts and catches on fire cuz I'm using 30A fuses... :D:D
(also easy to see in the dark)

Using the standard issue 10 Amp,they only cost 50 Cents,but id hate to be stuck in traffic on a 45*C day,with no fan.........

Meybe its the extreme temps we get here,but then why only the one or same Fuse??

From what i remember the older an electric motor gets the more amperage its likely to draw. Something about the windings deteriorating. Maybe there is someone on here that knows how to check amp draw and what the original draw should have been.

That's a good point, tobiahr. Could be windings or the bearing.
I would still think it would do it more often, though....

A clamp on DC ammeter should be able to tell you the amperage draw but many of the DC ones are kind of expensive.
The other way involves adding a shunt resistor and checking voltage drop, but I don't know if it would be worth it.

Hmmmm.........Fuse #3 has blown,so there is definately an Issue with the Electrics.The battery isn't that old,top Quality.
Where does one start looking?

1.Fan motor,fan switch so the Haynes manual tells me........

2.Pulled the fairing off,checked for loose ,broken wires.fan turns easily no resistance.Warmed the bike up-you guessed it the Fan came on!WTF?Didnt blow the new fuse either....??

Im thinking that when the muppets did the chain /sprocks they may have hit the Fan switch/wiring when putting the fairing back on,seeing its in the right place to be hit.They did a crap job with the rear end so it wouldnt surprise me realy.

Can you connect the fan directly to the battery, bypassing the switch, with some temporary wiring and through an appropriate fuse, and see what happens then? If it runs ok and the fuse doesn't blow, the windings in the fan are probably ok. At least it'd be one thing to rule out.
