Ok, I did something I don't normally do around my town.

I did a high speed pass around some cars on a major arterial road and was chased down by some kid in a tuner Honda car who jumped out and tried to tell me, by yelling at me, that my riding style is giving all riders a bad name.

The best part was the look on his face when I took my helmet off and he realized that I was twice his age. Hell, my bike is as old as he is.

In a fit of pique, I strode toward the lad, in a calm, stern, and non-aggressive tone informed him that I have more miles under my *** than he'll ever know. My bike is my sole source of transportation, has been for years, and I had not ever seen him out on the interstate in the middle of the night, in the rain, nor the fog and the snow and I'll be riding long after he's sold his 600 and he should basically shut the F**k up and to not ever counsel me on how I should ever ride.

Between the fair weather Pot-Bellied Harley Pirates and the iPhone generation.

I've become a curmudgeon.

Most right thinking New Zealanders were probably a bit shocked at this headline today :

Maybe that's the fashion in the rest of world, but I'm pretty sure that when I was 13, I was mostly interested in MX bikes and maybe a passing interest in girls.

Murdering local small business owners was never on the radar.

 

OMG, I'm keeping that one. Folding that up, and putting it in my back pocket.



As far as the original story goes - There's something wrong in the first world (because it's not just America, it's everywhere). There really is. It seems that as a society, we seem to only care about and focus on these small little things that don't really matter.

A guy on a bike passed a kid, so the kid takes off after the bike as if it's the most outrageous offense fathomable. Even though he's in a riced out civic, in which I'm sure he speeds.

WHO CARES! It's an arbitrary law made by police in order to fund their departments (real crimes don't pay the bills). You weren't in a neighborhood. You weren't threatening anyone with violence. People need to mind their own business, especially when it comes to these little arbitrary issues. If you see someone getting the hell beat out of them, step in. If you see someone flying down the road - relax.

And another thing - what is going on with kids these days? When I was that age, I would have muttered "cool" to myself seeing you go by. Now these teenagers want to be killjoys? I never thought I'd be critical that the kids of today have lost their "edge" as I become older...

You gotta be careful out there. Kids these days are more violent and crazy than ever. Never know when then will pull a gun or knife and ruin your day for looking at them.
