New menace on our roads!! My Son.
Well, TYB turned 16 the other day and got his learner's permit to drive a car.
I put the 'L' plates on the ute and let him drive the back way home yesterday arvo (about 45 mins stopping a couple of times). He's been driving the ute for years around our place so wasn't stalling or bunny hopping etc. The usual swerving slightly when changing gear and over correcting a bit went on but not too bad really.
A short run of highway, with bugger all traffic, and we were home. On the corner into our road I did have to grab the wheel and palm it quickly round to avoid the ditch but that's why I'm there I suppose. Too much going on with gears and braking and he turned a bit too late is all.
The kids here have to do 100 hours as a learner, with at least 10 hours at night, all logged in a book. Bloody good idea IMO. What's a few more grey hairs anyway?
Anyway lads, we're on again this arvo after he finishes footy training so wish me luck!
Anybody on the road in South East Queensland sees a white, dual cab Holden Rodeo with a tray back and 'L' plates, SAVE YOURSELVES AND PULL OVER!

Thanks Mark. I'd be able to get to work quicker with that "camouflage" .
I'm a bad passenger at the best of times so it's not going to be easy to remain looking calm...looking being the key word!
I've talked to the rest of the family too and there's no way he's driving the car to School, with my wife and daughter in it, until I'm completely sure he's all over it. My wife was a bit put out at first until I asked her if she would be able to grab the wheel, even with him frozen to it , and make the car go where it was meant to...like I did yesterday .
I'm pretty excited for him! I remember how chuffed I was when I first drove. Actually, I still love it!

Been there as well thi year as well Dave, got more than a few gray hairs,at one point when practicing with her learning permit i evening traffic my daughters was spending time in her in dead angle and her mirror too see if the oncomming traffic was letting ger getting on the highway, but was not looking back and in front quickly.. so to much spent time in the back and i looking at the cars stopped in front because of the trafic light it started like this:
in my head
ok she is going to slow down or look in front
I guess she is no, ok she will she will
then voicing my concern
Kassandra look in front
yeh dad( not doing it)
then i started stop .. Stop.. STOp... STOPPP! lol
She did it was just in time and i remember getting home the wife asking how did it go?
Went well honey ( lol)
But she got the hang of it aand now driving perfectly, they need to scare themselve a bit to get the right reflexes.
