long time no see :)
ok guys so i knows its been a while since i been on or posted anything, if some of you dont remember i have a 1988 honda cbr1000f with a turbo on it.
well after tearing into the engine found out it had a melted piston....well i finally started ripping the case apart...i did take pictures
i havent put it back together yet...i gotta order a bunch of new parts for it
soo i havent decided if im going to turbo it or not but if i dont turbo it im going to change its looks a lot...i know some of you wont like it but its mine :P oh and if you would like any pics taken let me know and ill snap a few
and i will make a post in the how to's in a week or so with how i split the cases...cant right now im on dial up..picture uploading would take forever.
so what im doing to the engine:
replace all bearings
replace shift forks (worn)
replace alternator chain
replace alternator tensioner
replace oil pump chain
replace cam chain
replace cam chain tensioner
replace every o ring in the engine
put in the brand new transmission i got for free
got a new crank for 100 bucks
ive gotta hone the cylinder that i got for it
replace the pistons
replace the rings
replace the valve seals and reseated the valves
its basically going to be a new engine once im done...anything thats a worn part is replaced
anywho let me know what you guys think

That sounds like a huge project that would be far beyond me, so some pics would be of interest. As for a turbo do it mate , whats the worst that could happen??????????????? I always think you should have your bike the way you want it and not the same as everyone elses
IMO.......best of luck to you mate.

well i decided not to turbo it, for the main reason of the cbr is going to loose a fair bit of weight LOL. i know a lot of you guys will hate what im going to do but, here is the plan take off all the fairings.cut the *** end off then put a buell x1 tail section on then for the headlight im going to run a over under headlight a acewell speedometer, a stage 3 jet kit, pod filters, a under engine muffler
Whatever spins your wheels..........
Put up some pics when ready...........
Just FWIW
1 Pod filters don't work well on these bikes, without a helluva lot of tweaking.....
2 Mark 3 Dynojet kit will only have an effect if you're doing major mods to the ports and exhaust system
3 The under engine muffler won't leave you much road clearance.......

i decided not to put the turbo back on because well once i finish it i want it to last and not only that after im done it will be a fair bit lighter and will be tuned as best as i can get it...im not quite sure i follow what you mean about the headers...im going to use the cbr headers an make a exhaust from the header to the exhaust for the gsxr...is there any pics you want from the engine?
I don't see the pods being a problem as you'll be taking the fairings off and, imo, they'd be the main cause of any probs.
As for chopping and changing the bike, it's your's so go for it
. There's some great custom bikes around and some factory bikes that now mimic the original 'street fighter' look.
Sounds like you've scored some good bargains for your re-build and it will be cool to have a brand new engine..should last another 22 years!
I don't know if I could resist the turbo though. With a brand new motor surely it'd be way strong enough if you ran fairly low boost. I saw a naked custom in a bike mag recently that had a small rear mounted turbo running at quite low boost. It looked cool, gave him a few more horses and he loves it....I wanted it!
.
Make sure you take a heap of pics of the chop and change. It's not something i'd do to mine, but I'm sure several of us would be interested in how it goes.
Turbo?? Go on, you know deep down inside you want to.
