The stuff smells like fish going in but more like cat food at the dry end.

To answer the question why?

It was mostly a test. We've been testing different solutions of fish guts to evaluate the viability and profitability of doing different products other than the egg we currently dry.

The stuff we were drying last weekend was actually food grade, for human consumption, concentrated fish protein to be used as an ingredient in dietary supplements for famine populations in Africa.

We slowly dry the product, removing 95-97% of the moisture and that gives a better result than the traditional methods of dehydrating liquids.

More on this if anyone is interested
