If she's just compiling a slideshow with background music she should be able to do it with the windows movie maker no problem. Might even already be on your computer and if not it's free. Of course assuming you're a pc user and don't have linux.

Mattison is most correct. If you are a windows person, Movie Maker will do what you need. Also, given the description of the task, you can also do it in PowerPoint. If you are a mac user, Final Cut is pretty much the standard. If you are a true Linux, I don't have a recommendation. Also for both mac and PC, Adobe makes a robust set of tools, but there is a reoccurring annual fee with them.

Finally, with all video editing software, it’s very important to make sure your machine can handle the requirements. It’s not fun to spend the $$ on a piece of software just to find out your computer doesn’t have enough horsepower to run it.

She previously used movie maker, problem is her new work computer is running windows8 which no longer has movie maker on it. She also incorporates short movies into the dvd too.

MM is downloadable for for free from windows support site for win8 and 8.1. Can't link cause it forces a finnish site and unsure will it change if you go there but took me less than a minute to find. Free downloads.

Apparently she needs a dvd maker program as MM cannot burn movies that can play on any dvd player
