Dynoed the Hurricane with video.
All
I dynoed my 1988 Hurricane 1000cc finally. The carbs need some work as she started
to break up due to a lean condition at 7K on the dyno. So we had to abort the dyno run. The bike made 83 rwhp right at 7k, then she started to break up.
The valves were just adjusted and the carb syncronized a week prior to the dyno run. All 8 air boots were replaced with new ones. Only difference that I did was put a KN filter in her right before the dyno. I was told and I also think that was part of the cause for some of the lean condition. I put the paper filter OEM back in today. The bike feels stronger with just a slight studder at 7K.( very obvious studder with the KN at 7K) After 7500 she pulls hard with no studder. What do you all think?
By the way the shop is very reputable and does great work.
Were figuring now we have to go through the carbs. Its always something. I'll get it right eventually.
I was hoping for a 110-115 rwhp dyno run.
Heres the video.

Looks about 10hp low at 7k, doesn't it?
But yeah, that sucks that she's breaking up. I would pull and clean the carbs for sure. And yeah, it sounds like the K&N is part of your problem. If you're on the edge of lean to begin with, a K&N can really screw it up.

KN filter in her right before the dyno
meaning restricted air flow which is kind of at odds with a too
lean mix...... if anything it should be richer....... bet if you ride
it and let it "dry" out a bit for a week or two you'd see some
improvement.
Just an opinion
Couple of oz's of Seafoam and ride the pizz outta her may
help out as well

eh Doug , I don't have that problem with mine and both of 'em have them too.
In fact get much better grunt with them in there
having said that they do require cleaning and recharging with oil once a year
