Crap day in the Naki!
Had a crap day locally.
We had our annual christmas 'around the mountain toy charity run' today (was meant to go, but plain forgot). They had a beauty day for it with fine weather and unfortunately it has ended up in a real mess.
They had a head on with a van and as a result two bikers died and two others are in a serious condition in hospitial. One of the bystanders helping had a medical issue (Due to the physical work he was doing on scene) and needed to be hospitalised too.
My wife done shift handover this evening with the crew that attended today, they are 'not in good shape'. Have to admit to being more than a bit upset at the mo after speaking with my wife about it. Feel really really gutted for the familes involved, they are in for a tough time and all the very best for the two in hospital, fingers crossed they come out ok. My thoughts and prayers are with them all.
Sharp reminder how vunerable we are on the roads eh chaps. Sorry to vent here lads, jus really pisses me off when ****e like this happens, more so when doing something for others.

Heck! That is a terrible, terrible tragedy.
Our condolences to the families involved. A sad Christmas indeed.
Do they know what happened? Van or motorcyclists on the wrong side?
Please take extra care out there people - It IS the silly season.

Hasn't been a particularly good week for motorcyclists this week in NZ. This was just down the road from mine, earlier in the week:
Timaru Road Knight Killed in Lindis Pass Motorcycle... | Stuff.co.nz
Regardless of gang affiliations and the preconceived ideas that may bring, at the end of the day, as was stated above, all that separates us from the cars is some white paint on the road surface.
Every blind corner , every blind brow, is a potential killer for you.
NZ relies very heavily on the tourism industry. Unfortunately part of the collateral damage from that, is that every year many of us are killed by tourists driving on the wrong side of the road.

Yeah good points TK, We have fantastic roads made for biking however there is a price to pay for it, alas a heavy one at times involving bikes.
Nearly clobbered two tourists myself last year that were taking pics standing on the road on a blind corner, managed to miss them only to stop just short of their rental camper, scary stuff. Mate wasn't so lucky, he side swiped the camper and made a bit of a mess of things.
Bike riders have taken a bit of hiding over here in the last couple of weeks. First funeral of the one of the bikers from last weekend is tomorrow. Hope the rain stays off for it.
Take care and stay rubber side down eh.
