An interesting story on the radio this afternoon whilst I was in the field. Apparently the French Scrabble National Competition has recently been won by a Kiwi who doesn't speak French.
He just managed to memorize all 260 000 French words with between 2 and 10 letters in them. Of course you don't need to know the meaning of the word to win in Scrabble, you just need to see the "fit on the board".
But the really clever thing was that he managed to learn all those words in nine weeks.

Lots of inquiring minds Teeks, and I have a new tinfoil hat every day - although I usually hide it under my watermelon hat these days...........
And yes I saw that piece of news re the UnZud Scrabble Champ on the online news. Not a bad effort at all. Shows what can be done in the land of the long white cloud if those very attractive sheep can be left alone for long enough!
Me, I'm leaving a trail of drool each day merely looking at these French ladies.......

Oh la la; but let's not carried away here Seb.
As a long term keeper would you rather have a Citroen SM or an SS Commodore?
Both have their attractions, but I think the Citroen would drive you to distraction and bankruptcy in the long haul.
Lovely to look at, neat to own, but I think the long term maintenance would probably be crippling.
And I speak from experience, I own a feckin Subaru.

So; Bar Codes. how do they work? If I invent some some kind of beautiful ice cream flavour, that eventually gets exported to the States. How do make sure that my 1 litre of ice cream doesn't get scanned out out as a rebuilt 427 Hemi with the high lift cam option??
Is there just one person in the world that keeps a track of all bar codes???.
He must be a very busy guy.

QR codes are similar to UPS codes. The biggest difference is a UPS (what you see on items in every store) store information horizontally. QR codes store information both vertically and horizontally. The spacing between the black and white dots is the actual information. The scanner reads that and translates it into understandable text.
Also, QR codes have multiple versions. If memory serves correctly, there are 40. Each version has it's own definition of what a black or white dot means and the space in between them. The 1st thing that gets read is the version information. This tells the scanner how to interpret. Think of that as on this forum. Many of us speak English, but through our relationships we know that Kiwi is a Kiwi, Seb is an Aussie, Hamlin is an American, Mattie is a Fin, Chippy is English, etc.. We each have our own version of English and knowing where the origin is, helps us to interpret what's actually being said.
