I just wanted to say that my 88 Hurricane 1000 just turned 61k. She is running just as strong as the day i bought her. Other cyclist are amazed that she has over 60k. She still spanks the the new R6 in the straights and the Honda 600rr's with ease. Alot also ask me when am I going to sell her because of the miles or its about time for a new bike huh. I say why do I need a new one as this one does it all well and its just getting broken in. I say its a Honda first off and that it has been maintained very well so why sell it. Plus its a classic muscle bike.
I don't run her as hard as I use to but its there when I want it. Anyone else have alot of miles on there cane. These bikes just keep running and running. Gotta Love it.

I totally agree with your sentiments Matt.
98K miles on mine now. Just about to undergo top end surgery to make ready for another year...... nah....make that 10 years, of reliable, fun motorcycling.
I look at new bikes from time to time but there is nothing out there comparable (that I could afford).
Keep safe!
Happy new year mate.

My old girl is just coming up to 35 000 km (that's about 21 000 miles in the old money).
Special year for her thou', come early April she turns 25 years.
I'm beginning to feel like one of those Vintage Car Club Chaps that wears flat caps everywhere. If I hang out for another 5 years apparently I'll get cheap registration because I'm just a sad old ****.
To be fair, it's probably worth it.

My ole girl is all ok apart from the electrics plastics, faded cracking electrical switches on the bars, makes the bike look feckin shoddy. would be nice to change em out for tidy units (if ya can get em) or update to modern units and graft in the wiring, not too hard to do.

Sorry Andy,my mistake, just done some further research and apparently the rules are 40 years for vehicles currently in NZ but there is some kind of exemption rule for special interest vehicles over twenty years old that were never originally sold in NZ.
You might be able to slide your old girl under the radar with that rule, seems to have some bias towards LHD vehicles but I'm sure you could convince the girl at the Post Office counter that your bike was originally LHD and you have now converted it.

As for reasoning with the post office 'girl'.................um, yah haven't been to our local rego place, sorta epitomises the old school public sector sterotypical stoney faced, cold blooded, heartless, lizard skinned, blue rinse, biker hating service desk be-otch. More chance of negotiating truce with japanese whalers and sea shepard than convincing her (well I think it's a her??) of anything.
