25th Birthday
Got an e-mail from "Faster and Faster" (worth subscribing to if you like to follow all manner of motorcycle related stuff) yesterday.
It mentioned that this year is the 25th anniversary of the introduction of the BMW K1.
Of course this year is also the 25th anniversary for us Mk1 owners. What really struck me though was the similarities in line between the K1 and the CBR.
Same heavy front guard, rectangular headlight, a trip back to the eighties. Enjoy:

There is no doubt that allot of good **** came into existence back at that time Tony :-) and no doubt that the K1 was at least one of the better ones mate ......
As a hardened Jap bike rider even today ! ....I still love the BM'S mate!!
very very nice ... but I am still a tad to wild to actually own one :-)
Long live the CBR'S !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

They certainly have a reputation for reliability and longevity amongst the aficionado.
But of course that may simply be because, after forking out that much dosh, they are simply too proud to admit that the **** thing would ever dare to break down?

I have been fortunate to have a run on all , or mostly all of the BM's at one time or another over the years Tony ....
but , as you mentioned .... mate , the money to buy them ???
... I have had a history of throwing large road bike down the road! ...so shelling out the cash just to just see how well the bounce?? , has not been high on my list either mate :-)
never the less .... they are sweet :-)
BTW ... how quick is the moderation thing happening tonight for me ??? lololol
I almost feel like a rigi-dig CBRF member mate !! lolol

This thread makes me feel so old!
When the K1 was first relaesed I was invited by BMW Australia for a test ride. Loved it, loved the out-there styling which, as was pointed out above is very similar to the CBR1000F, with the Honda being a tad more 'organic'.
About 18 months ago I rode through Croatia, Boznia Herzogovina, Montenegro, Slovenia and up the Stelvio Pass in Northern Italy. Did the trip on a BMW1200GS. When I returned, I said to my partner that if I had to chose ONE bike for the rest of my life it would be the 4 valve boxer 1200GS. It was that good!
Just lucky I don't have to choose huh?? Love my CBR, Love my Kawasakis, Love my Suzukis, Love my Moto Morinis..............just love riding I guess.
Cheers, SB
