I know I've got too much time on my hands, but looking at that link, I couldn't figure it out. So I copied the pic, printed it out, cut it in three pieces, flipped it as in the link, and it still went from 12 to 13. And I still can't figure out how.

Yep, it's got me f#cked. This AM I counted 12 then 13 and struggled with the concept. Spent 5 hours driving to the big smoke and back, now I've had a couple of home brews so there's no point even trying again

First I had to count them then divide by 2.
Well if you look at the pic and count you see 12 whole people. Then wait WFT???? 
o k now I count 12 Whole people... Opps... Does that sound right.

When the group on the right moves to the left it creates the extra person.
The group on the left moving to the right remains the same number of people.
I just spent 20 minutes watching that over and over, and that's about as much as I came up with.
You can see how their heads get sliced so its the other guys feed that become the top of the head.
