Default Restoring 1988 Hurricane

Hello
i just purchased a 1988 Hurricane. It could use a little paint and body work. I'm wanting to get it back to original colors. I'm uploading a picture of it. I can't tell if it's been repainted and I can't see where any decals have been removed. But I'm sure it should have a 1000 decal at least. I've only seen one other sold red one online but I could tell stuff had been removed from it. Can anyone help.

Here's your listing I think - definitely a really bad repaint job. The color code should be under the seat on the frame rail.

Red tank top, gold wheels though? Not a color scheme I think is original - the closest I could find with a red tank top, silver lettering etc is this black one.

Yes that's the one I bought. Thanks for the info. I didn't know the color code was under the seat. I've been trying to figure out how to decode the VIN number like a car. I was afraid it was going to be something like a bad paint job. The paint on the front fender don't match the rest of the bike.
Looks like I have some work to do.
Thanks again

I think you are right. This is the paint scheme I'm really considering.
