Well about 3 weeks ago one of my throttle cables snapped.
It was the "pull open" cable.
I had one ordered and it finally came yesterday so I took some pics
of the process because I couldn't really find any to help me out.
It was rather easy, didn't have to remove carbs or anything.
Being my first bike and all, I've never done anything like this.
So if I can do it, anyone on here should be able to do it as well.

Step 1: Remove gas tank.
Mine is just 2 screws and it lifts up, not sure how easy yours will be.


Step 2: Unscrew old cable from throttle. Mine was already snapped so it
was easy to get out.

You will also need to open up the starter switch box to release cable from throttle handle.


Step 3: Remove all hoses that are in your way.
Mine was just a couple air hoses.
Also remove the air ducts going to carbs, gives you a lil more wiggle room.


Step 4: I used a wrench to wedge open throttle to get easier access to
throttle cable hold on carbs.


Step 5: Use some needle nose pliers to undo old cable.


Step 6: Install new cable to throttle handle and reassemble starter box.


Step 7: I moved the wrench over to left side of bike to give me room
where the cables are actually attached to carbs or throttle body or whatever.


Step 8: Route new cable and needle nose again to install.



Step 9: Tighten screws on new cable.


Step 10: Replace gas tank, and boom! new throttle cables.

yes I had to use a couple of the pics twice because I didn't get
every procedure pictured.

Further notice:
You may have to play with the throttle while installing to check the
slack on the cables.
Also it would be smart to lube the cables, which I didn't do...
Other than that, it's pretty clean cut and simple.
I thought I was gonna have to take off carbs by everything I was
reading on the net.
Difficulty level: 2 or 3 out of 10.
Beginners, don't be nervous. The only problem I found is finding the
proper slack in the cable so it will snap back closed.
Mine didn't do it when I bought it because the old cable being so tight.
So, I'm used to it. It just closes very slowly.

After installing, the throttle response is amazing!!
Feels like a completely different bike. Made her rev up faster and also
the throttle closes a lot faster. I think it wasn't closing all the way before.
I'm having to learn her over again. But very glad I did it myself.
If I have forgotten any steps, or anyone wants to add tips or tricks
be my guest! I am only an experienced beginner.

How exactly did you get the tank off I have mine unscrewed but I'm nervous about detaching the hoses

 

Turn the petcock to off.
There are 2 screws up on the front, undo those.
Next, raise the tank back and undo the hoses.
There is a bolt on the rear side of tank that it swivels on, undo that
and the tank comes right off.
I don't have fairings or a factory seat so not sure about any extra small steps.
