Excellent idea axsys! I just finished this project and it works like a charm. If anyone else wants to try it, I have a supply of the 1" longer M6 socket head cap screws (I had to buy a box of 50).

PM me if you would like one and I can send it out at cost.

Dan

How far does this mod bring the wheel from the ground. Having the spool in the center of the wheel would decrease the lift of the stand, does the wheel spin freely?

I can't say as yet, as I am waiting a bit to buy the rear stand (saving for a Pit Bull). I can't see it being an issue though

Thanks for the write up. The tapping took a long time (my first time, too)... good thing I have patience. <:0)

rather than drill and tap a rod, i just put a threaded rod all the way through and a nut on each end. works like a charm.
thanks for the great idea.

If you have a stand like mine with square shaped "tubes" for insertion of the optional "shelf" or "bobbin" lifters, just remove the lifters, position the stand and insert a suitable rod through the square tubes and hollow axel and then lift. No need for bobbins or nuts...

Web addy:
Depotstøtte, bak - Biltema

Norwegian website, but anyway....

Click on "vis større bilde" to enlarge the pic.

On the back side of the square tubes there are set-screws to adust/set the distance between the lifters.
And this stand is cheap, appx 30 euros.
