Default Custom 'Corbin' style seat from the stock one

After I finished the GSXR tail, I wasn't really happy with the fit of the Corbin seat I had. After thinking about it for a while, I decided to make a custom seat out of the stock seat. It is plenty thick and is easily modified.

Just pull out the staples holding on the cover. Using my Corbin as a guide for the layout of the new seat, I used an electric cutting knife, and my angle grinder with a sanding disc to smooth out the shape.

I need to add a piece in the front to make it higher, and I want to add a custom piece in the back to give it a real custom fit look. I'm going to the foam store to pick up some foam and spray adhesive.

Then the final shaping and design will begin. After it's finished I'll take it to an upolstery shop to get a nice cover.[/align]

More pics. You can see where I added foam to the front and back

Final shaping is under way. I'll be getting it covered soon.

Sorry for the delay on the pics. I could have sworn I already posted them. My wife and I had a son a month ago, and I swear I would forget my brain if it wasn't in my head.

The seat turned out fantastic. I absolutely love it, and it has dramatically improved my seating position and it is much easier to stay on the bike without sliding off the back of the seat under acceleration. I have also added tank grip panels which I will also post pics of as well.

Here's the pics of the Tech Spec tank grip. I had planned on doing a write up on them as well, but haven't gotten around to it yet.

Between the seat and tank grip panels, it is almost effortless staying on the bike under heavy acceleration and extreme cornering.

Default Pics?... can't seem to see them

I don't know if this thread is being monitored anymore (it's be a couple of years), but I'm re-doing my 98 CBR900 seat and would love to be able to see the pics.

Are they still available? The links don't seem to be live anymore.

Thanks.

I have just done my seat and its a lot better theres plenty of foam to play with but take it easy when trimming it you can always take more off if you want (my seat was on and off three times before I was satisfied now its just right) . I've never done this before but with a electric knife and homemade tool it worked great. Remember to mark out the area you want to deal with as its easy to get carried away.
Dont use a craft knife to cut the foam I have seen some people using them on
youtube to cut out squares to lower the seat foam then attempt to get everything smooth with whatever tool they prefer to use...grinders, Sanders and the like. I tried this on my first attempt and even after trying to smooth the foam it still looked as if it had been attacked with a knife and fork with several lumps of foam missing. (as luck would have it I hadnt gone to deep so when I used the electric knife and homemade thingy everything worked out fine).
Grinders are good but as I dont have one I made my own very cheap tool for the job. You can see pics of my seat before during and after at bazzasmotoblog.blogspot.com good luck!
