Yoshimura RS-1 Questions

Yoshimura RS-1 Questions
Picked up a used RS-1 Yoshi a while back and have been happy with it. When I got it, there was a small amount of rash on the inlet end of the tube which is to deep to polish out. In my ever present need to work on my bike, I've been thinking about shortening the can about 3" to remove the rash. I have found a good amount of repacking info on the newer RS-2 and 3 models and the generic "how to shorten you muffler", but there seems to be nada out there on the RS-1. So my questions are:
1. Has anyone had an RS-1 apart?
2. It appears to be a conventional single tube/single pass design, but with as quiet as it is I'm not sure.
3. Anything special about repacking? Is the RS-1 designed to be repacked?
4. Other then rivets, anything else required?
I realize that shortening the can will increase the noise volume, but as it is fairly quiet now, a slight increase is acceptable. Doing my homework so I can avoid surprises and minimize my down time. TIA

Finally worked up the motivation to order a repack kit from Yoshimura for my RS-1. What I have found:
1. Unlike the later series mufflers, the RS-1 does not appear to be intended for repacking. Removal of the shell exposes an outer layer of packing mat and an internal wrap of heavy duty steel wool material around the double core. While it can be repacked, the repack kit from Yoshimura has only the fiberglass mat packing.
2. I picked up my RS-1 used so I can't say what the total mileage on it is, I have put on a little over 10K myself. After repacking, no noticeable difference in sound at idle or speed, maybe slightly louder.
3. Shortening: The concentric double tube core could be shortened if someone was highly motivated to do so, but would require much more work than other designs. If you're after the look or sound of a short can, go with another brand.
4. Bands, packing, and rivets in the repack kit are first quality, what you expect from Yoshimura. Order a repack kit for an 18" cannister.
Hope this provides someone some insight should they have an RS-1.
