Default Yamaha R1 sounded like a monster truck.. HOW???

ok so basically i went out yesterday and was riding with a new group of guys and i came across this R1 that seriously sounded like a freaking monster truck. It was pretty loud, but thats not what made me love it. It was the tone that he had which i can only describe as a monster truck sound lol. How the heck did he do that people??? I asked him but he didnt give me much, said something about a cam upgrade i think.is that something that can be done to my 954? Help me out guys!

Did it have a 2brothers exhaust? Those things are notoriously overly loud.

No Jeff, i know an exhaust when i hear one, and i personally do no like Two Bros.... this thing sounded like no bike ive ever heard before... and i mean NO bike, not harley or any jap bike. Go watch a monster truck video on you tube if you have never heard one, they do really quick and frequent revs to keep the truck moving and making the show... sounded just like that. and when he opened that throttle up, that bike was mean. It wasnt even super loud, it was just aggressive as hell

Perhaps one of the newer R1 bikes with a "crossplane" crank.

Open, straight through pipe, with no baffle or resonator...maybe. Ever start your bike with no pipe on? Sounds like a V-8 Nascar engine...or a monster truck. Has to be his exhaust system though, I know hotter cams will change the tone and idle strength of the engine but i'm not certain that alone would create a monster truck sound.
