Default wow I hate hondas

why does the 1st-to-2nd gear shift on f4i's suck so bad!? shift hard, shift soft, shift fast, shift slow..... no matter what, it's going to go into neutral at least 10% of the time.

While I think your title is overstating it a bit I've noticed the same thing. There's a "flutter" when you pass by neutral and if you think it's clicked into first and let go, VROOM. I just try and pay more attention to it, hasn't bothered me enough to really research it.

Lower your shift pedal, be more assertive, and blip the throttle, specially at higher RPM. You'll get used to it.

mine barely ever does that, usually tho i just clutch to take off, the synchro shift ability with the hurricane is nuts, i usually clutch on downshifts, but there was once when i was cut off the downshift was ahead of the clutch and i got away with it, so i dont know if the shift linkage can be adjusted, or just how you pull on the shifter?

used to have a 600r ninja....an 88....now that thing shifted horribly

Yeah, try not to be so hard on Honda. When I got my F4i I had the same issue. It just took a few hundred miles of really paying attention to my shifting to develop a good feel for how hard to kick up the shifter and how far. And like mentioned before, it's not just a Honda specific problem. I've put about 12k miles on the bike since I got it and after the first thousand I've only missed a shift maybe 2-3 times since. Just give it some time bro.

Just switch to GP shift, then you don't have to worry about pulling up to shift, just tap down. So much simpler.

I really hate this about hondas too.
My VFR, and my 900rr do/did it horribly.
at high RPM's it hurts your foot sometimes with how much it "flutters" from 1st to second.
I think honda is trying to tell us not to drag race our bikes.
