Default When You Can't Find an Exhaust, Do You Build Your Own?

Exhaust systems are essentially just pipes. Sure, mufflers can get fancy on the end with their physical characteristics, sound notes, and their pollutant-handling mechanisms.

If one has a bike that he or she simply can't find a full system for, can they just buy any system, take it to a welder, and then have them shape it to fit the bike?

What is your purpose on fitting other bikes exhaust to your bike? And what is your bike? That really isn't that simple if you wan't to gain anything else then more noise and less power. The headers and the collector are the most important part of the exhaust. The midpipe and muffler just needs to be big enough to not restrict it but not too big that it won't have the necessary back pressure putting it simple.

My bike is a '96 CBR600F3. The exhaust on it is rusted, so I just like to give it a fresh look.

It just seemed odd that new, full systems aren't sold anymore. The only thing I could find were those by Delkevich on eBay.

Those are essentially oem copies, so same same.

You could always freshen yours up with a sand and some high temp paint.

Pretty sure knife maker put 954/929 OEM headers on his F2. If you want to know what stuff will mount up, you need to know Center-to-Center measurements between the exhaust ports. And then it's a matter of finding something that will fit around your engine and give you ground clearance.

A guy in the '54 section used '54 headers and then coupled it to a GSXR Scorpion end can on his bike... so it's doable.

They do make kits to help you build an exhaust. A lot of guys use them for turbo manifolds or custom exhausts. They're really expensive kits though...

Motad

There is more to an exhaust than a few bits of pipe bodged together.

Motad make replacements in st/st, they dyno bikes to make sure they run as per OEM.

I have motads on my bike, very decent pipes.

If you haven't already sourced some pipes try: www.sandybikespares.co.uk

Email: sandybikespares@fsmail.net (Your country code + 01234 871009 Not sure if they export to where you live or how much the postage would be, but worth a try. I have some of their stainless front header pipes on my 2002 CBR 600 F1 and they came with a two year guarantee. £169.99 all in. Hope they can help you out!
