Whats the best CBR for touring?
Excluding the 1100XX orthe 1000Fwhat CBR do you think would make the best sport touring bike? My thought would be the 98-99 900rr becuase is supposedly has a forgiving riding position. Or maybe a 929 because of EFI, or maybe a 600F4i because of range. Either way give me your thoughts.
Thanks

RE: Whats the best CBR for touring?
i just finished a 1000 mile trip on my 93 900rr and loved every min. of it.
i have to say @5'11" 225 lbs i found the bike very comfy. if my cousin wasn't so hung over the trip would of been 1500-2000 miles.
though i have to say that i did own a 94 600f2 and that bike was very comfy also i could ride it all day long. either one you wont be disappointed they are both very good bikes.

Well I may be a bit biased, but I can't say enough good things about the F4i. But that's just me... it might not fit everyone. But of the 1000RR's, 600RR's, and my F4i that I've ridden, my F4i is always by far the most comfortable for me. It's a little more of a relaxed position compared to most of the rest, plus bulletproof reliability. I love mine.... it's taken me all over the country!
I've done many roadtrips on mine... longest was 5,126.3 miles over 18 days back in 2006, then a 1100 miles in 22 hours on a saddlesore ride last year, then 3000 miles in 10 days last year, plus many other smaller weekend roadtrips to various places. My F4i works perfect for any trip I've taken.... I love it! Really though any of the F-series bikes are comfortable enough for touring. One of my roadtrip buddies toured on a '98 F3 for the longest time

+1 on VFR. Its still a pretty nice looking bike.
Since you excluded the 1100XX. I would say just about any CBR in the mid 90's range is going to have a lot more relaxed postion than the newer bikes. But as also already suggested, the F4i is a good comprimise as well.
If a full faired sportbike is neccessary, I would suggest the 599 or the 919. The 599 uses the old 600 cbr engine, and the 919 uses the old 900 engine. Well, basically the same.

The VFR is a little heavy for my tastes and I am not a fan of the V powerband. But I do agree it would make a great tourer. I guess the RR and F series just got more agressive as time went on so anything in the mid-late 90's would work. I didn't think of the 919 though, I'll just have to live without the fairings.
