Default What year engine fits a 1995 cbr600?

My buddy just bought a 1995 cbr600rr for 2 grand. He then found out a few days later that the carbs needed to be rebuilt. So he spent $400 on those.

So he's $2400 into the bike and then the bike stops running. Finds out it needs piston rings. He was going to sell it ridiculously low but I am trying to convince him to get a new engine for it.

My question is, what engine years will fit this bike? Only 1995's?

Here's a pic if it helps.

direct bolt in -
91 92 93 94 f2
95 96 97 98 f3

if you go f2 route, you need to use their carbs

there's even an f4i motor in an f2 frame on fireblades with just a few frame mods/ adapter plates. not sure how comprehensive it is - i just know that it exists. and that would be more complicated. you'd be converting to FI, so whole new harness, ecu, sensors, etc. - i'm just using this as an example

some people on the net are saying a 900 will fit in there with a small adapter plate (for the head bolt)

compression is a lil low at 160psi.

i'd look around you on CL too. you may get lucky.

the thing to remember when buying parts especially when you're not riding - i assume your motor is blown or something... is to fight the urge to buy it to get it in the motorcycle asap. remember that a better deal will ALWAYS come.

i remember when i sold my motor - which i sold for around $450 (but it was cleaner, it had an advanced ignition rotor on it, same mileage, +$75 shipping).

that thing is almost $575 with shipping

why spend ~500 on a motor when you could spend a fraction of that and re-ring the one it has in it?

Because I don't really know how to do that and my neighbor who does a lot of work on his hayabusa suggested that it would probably be better to just buy a new engine.

I have however taken apart the top end of a yamaha yz 125 dirt bike and replaced the piston / rings / gaskets etc.

with the internet at your disposal theres really not much that you cant do. but you and your friend can do what you want.
Im just saying if it was my bike and my money i would take that $500, that i didnt spend on a new motor, and rebuild the current one to tip top shape and probably have some cash left over for other goodies.

Where are you located ? What part of the country ? There may be others in the area that could help as well. Is the engine that ragged out that it needs rings ?

I live in clearwater, florida. I don't know a whole lot about the condition of the bike. I was browsing craigslist and I saw my friends bike on there for a ridiculously low price of $700. I called him up and asked why he's selling it so low and told him that we could probably fix it.

definitely stop him from selling it, no point in taking that huge of a loss due to something so minor.
